The Summit School Difference

Summit has earned an outstanding reputation in the field of special education by providing
a flexible holistic approach. We focus on the academic, social, emotional, and prevocational development of each child.

What distinguishes Summit from other schools is its combination of rigorous academics
and therapeutic support. Our interdisciplinary team of teachers, social workers, school psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and reading specialists address the needs of each student. A variety of activities, such as interscholastic sports, swimming instruction, and a recreational enrichment after-school program, round out the Summit experience.

A Commitment to Academic Excellence

Summit’s academic curriculum meets the NYS learning standards and core curriculum requirements. Students engage in academic studies, furthering their reading and writing development, while building on their basic understandings of mathematics, social studies, science, and the world around them through practical, engaging, and hands-on activities.

A multidisciplinary approach is used by our teachers to immerse students in their studies throughout every aspect of the school day. Additional subjects include art, music, technology, second language instruction, health, physical education, and swimming, as well as student activities and an after-school program.

In middle school, special focus is provided to help children progress from the primarily
self-contained environment on the elementary level to a more departmentalized program
in grades 6-8.

During the school year, we will present your child's academic program and review progress during Back-to-School Night and parent-teacher conferences. Report cards are issued three times a year.
